CCAS Amplification System (Amplifier Section)

Beyond Intelligent

The audio power amplifier plays an essential role in every system that generates audible sound. For decades, amplifiers have been produced using analogue (Class A and AB) designs. They are very inefficient and result in voluminous, heavy, products with poor thermal properties. The innovation cycle of analogue audio power conversion has come to its maturity and hardly any innovation can be made there. On the other hand, there are other amplification architectures and techniques that are only at the beginning of their development. These technologies carry a large potential for delivering much higher efficiency and audio performance. Thus, making audio products more reliable, of higher quality, smaller size, and involving lower costs to outperform their predecessors. Instead of linear power regulation used in Class AB amplifiers, which leads to energy losses in power transistors, AEX Labs CCAS power amplifiers use transistors that operate only at two stages – “on“ or “off. Nearly no energy loss occurs at the transistor and nearly all the power is carried to the transducer.

Compared to other technology developers, AEX Labs has taken a different approach. AEX Labs CCAS technologies are self-oscillating and self-containing: several feedback loops ensure stable high audio quality, regardless of the speaker loads. CCAS series power amplifiers use a self-oscillating closed loop system. This design suppresses non-linearities in the output stage, delivering a high PSRR (power supply rejection ratio): 60 dB in CCAS solutions, compared to as little as 0 dB in other designs. The principle also allows for simple, intelligent engineering of solutions, since modulation and regulation are in the same block. Another design principle applies a secondary feedback loop after the output filter, in order to compensate the non-linearities introduced by the output filter. While the inner loop compensates non-linearities related to the modulator and the power stage.

Among the many qualities of the two technologies, the two feedback systems - including feedback directly at the output of the amplifier, produce very low amplifier output impedance resulting in highly precise bass control, superior to Class AB and typical of Class A. AEX Labs CCAS Series Power Amplifier solutions also incorporate intelligent switch-mode power supplies enhanced by proprietary technologies and designed for smooth interaction with other CCAS amplifier sections. A power supply has a high impact on the resulting audio quality and efficiency of audio products, Hence, by incorporating a switching power supply of proprietary design, AEX Labs CCAS Series Power Amplifiers ensure continuous, high quality, efficient audio reproduction. AEX Labs has developed and continues working on a portfolio of ever more sophisticated technologies and further realizing the potential for Innovation. The company’s competencies now extend to monitor design, digital audio signal processing, acoustical design and optimization
, as well as system integration.

Accuracy and Convenience

In today’s cost-conscious marketplace, powered loudspeaker systems are often the first choice for production studios, sound-reinforcement operators and high-end consumers. AEX Labs CCAS Series Powered Monitors offer a unique, easily implemented solution. Our CCAS Power Amplifiers with user-programmable CCAS Digital Audio Processor can turn any studio monitor or sound-reinforcement loudspeaker into a better sounding, self-contained, active system that greatly extends the quality of your sound system. AEX Labs CCAS Series Powered Monitors are the ideal choice for world class audio and loudspeaker systems. The monitors feature a Programmable Signal Processor that lets you tailor the output of each monitor, including crossover frequencies, overall equalization, component-overload protection, level trims, time-alignment delays and more.

AEX Labs CCAS Series Powered Monitors with their built-in CCAS Digital Signal Processing System consists of two components: a Windows® XP-compatible CCAS Software Application, and a Digital Audio Processor (DAP) Module that utilizes up to 16 Bi-Quad filters per channel to provide the necessary, ultra-precise, 24-bit/96 kHz DSP. During initial setup, you simply connect a PC or laptop to the amplifier via a USB port, and load the relevant crossover, EQ, overload protection and delay settings into the amplifier’s memory.

It couldn’t be easier!
